German ride manufacturer Huss Park Attractions is celebrating the successful opening of the new Toxicator ride at Alton Towers.
The latest addition to the UK park’s Forbidden Valley area, Toxicator is located next to the Nemesis Reborn coaster, which recently underwent an extensive 18-month transformation, reopening last year with a new 716m (2,350ft) track. Together, these attractions mark the next chapter in the evolution of Forbidden Valley, which is undergoing a significant modernisation at the hands of Merlin.
Standing 78ft (23.7m) tall with a 16ft (4.8m) elevated platform, Toxicator is now the highest Top Spin ride of its kind, marking a significant milestone in the collaboration between Huss, Merlin Magic Making, and Alton Towers Resort.
On Toxicator, riders are flipped upside down and suspended face-first above a bubbling pool of "toxic alien acid," all while water fountains erupt, heightening the dramatic atmosphere.
The Top Spin Suspended, a signature product from Huss, has long been a popular choice for theme parks worldwide. This latest iteration features a unique suspended seating design, with 38 seats arranged in a back-to-back layout, providing a thrilling, floorless gondola experience. The suspension allows riders to enjoy unobstructed views on both sides of the ride while also offering upgraded seating and shoulder restraints, eliminating the need for a crotch or lap belt.
Toxicator also offers a tunnel beneath the attraction, which places guests in close proximity to the action and the overhead water splash hazard, intensifying the immersive experience. A state-of-the-art water fountain system, capable of shooting water up to 8 meters high, has been installed on both sides of the tunnel, with the water feature synchronised to the ride's movements, enhancing the overall spectacle.
The attraction also introduces a custom-designed show ride cycle, with synchronized motion, lighting effects, water displays, and specially tailored soundtracks. Both the ride and its water features are designed for year-round operation, with onsite dryers in place for the comfort of guests.
