The long-awaited Game of Thrones Studio Tour has finally opened its doors in Bambridge, Northern Ireland.
Offering fans the opportunity to experience Game of Thrones like never before, the state-of-the-art visitor attraction has been hailed as a game-changer and is expected to become one of Northern Ireland’s most visited attractions.
Covering 10,000sq m (107,600sq ft) inside Linen Mill Studios, where much of the show was shot, the tour and exhibition is the result of a £36.5m (US$50.3m, €42.7m) investment and a partnership between HBO and studio owner, John Hogg and Company.
Bringing guests face-to-face with authentic costumes, set pieces, props and behind-the-scenes imagery from the multi-award-winning series, the Great Hall at Winterfell serves as the centrepiece of the tour, however, visitors will also be able to get up close to several iconic sets including Dragonstone’s Throne Room, Cersei’s Courtyard, the Map Room and the Mess Room at Castle Black.
Guests are also taken behind the scenes, with the experience highlighting the work of the show’s creative teams, including CGI, art, design, wardrobe, make-up and prosthetics.
Additional experiences include a pre-show experience, a retail element selling Game of Thrones merchandise, as well as a restaurant, a ‘backlot’ café and terrace.
“This is the only place on the planet where you can see first-hand some of the stunning sets, intricate costumes, imaginative props, breathtaking concept sketches and many more authentic items related to the show,” said Northern Ireland’s economy minister, Gordon Lyons.
“As we continue to emerge from the pandemic with increasing optimism, the timing of the opening of the Game of Thrones Studio Tour could not be more opportune. As international travel opens up once more, Northern Ireland has added this world-class attraction to its already dynamic tourism offering.
“I congratulate studio owners on bringing the project to fruition and look forward to seeing the positive impact the Game of Thrones Studio Tour has on the local tourism landscape for many years to come.”
