Europe’s first triple launch coaster coming to Norway’s TusenFryd in April

Norway’s TusenFryd will soon launch Europe’s first ever suspended triple launch coaster, with the NOK100m Storm - The Dragon Legend being described as the ‘most important single investment’ in the park’s 34-year history

Norwegian theme park TusenFryd has made the “most important single investment” in its 34-year history, with the NOK100m (US$9.9m, €9.1m, £8.2m) Storm - The Dragon Legend - set to become Europe’s first ever suspended triple launch coaster.

A ride from Gerstlauer, Storm is an inverted coaster with carriages mounted under the rails, leaving rider’s legs hanging freely through the ride experience.

Reaching speeds of up to 95kmph (59mph), the first of three launches comes at the start, with the train accelerating backwards, then on its way forward again and once more through the ride. The coaster will reach a maximum height of 33.5m (110ft).

“With the spectacular innovation in place in 2023, Tusenfryd now has a total of eight rollercoasters,” Erik Rhøne Andersen, marketing director at TusenFryd, told Planet Attractions.

“They range from Den Aller Minste, Western-Expressen and last year's novelty HuriHuri for children, to Loopen, SuperSplash, ThunderCoaster, SpeedMonster and this year's novelty; Storm - The Dragon Legend.

“Compared to other parks in Northern Europe, we now have a respectable selection of rollercoasters. With the new attraction, we are joining the absolute top tier on the continent.”

The investment is the most expensive in TusenFryd’s history and is part of an even larger NOK250m (US$24.5m, €22.6m, £20.3m) expansion that sees a new themed area called Dragonville debut at the park. Themed as a medieval adventure, the new land is anchored by Storm and will also feature a dungeon-themed horror maze with live scare actors. The park is also investing in an area themed on Route 66 and another based on a Lost Kingdom.

“This is the most important single investment in our ongoing, three-year upgrade programme and in TusenFryd’s history,” said Andersen.

“It also contributes to strengthening our ambition that Tusenfryd will be Norway's largest theme park for exciting and pleasant experiences for many years to come. For coaster enthusiasts all over the world and those who didn't know they were one, we really think that our new attraction will live up to its expectations.”

Storm will open as part of Dragonville on April 29 for the start of the park’s 35th season in operation.
