Egypt’s Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, has assessed final preparations for the opening of the highly-anticipated Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) and the development of its surrounding areas.

Covering more than 500,000sq m (5.4 million sq ft) the museum will be home to the world’s largest collection of Egyptian artifacts and was designed to exhibit an inclusive collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities.

In a meeting attended by key government officials and project stakeholders, Madbouly stressed the importance of enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the surrounding areas, including roads leading to the museum, to create a welcoming environment for visitors.

While an official opening date has not been confirmed, the anticipated full opening is expected to take place in mid-2024.
