The Eden Project Dundee has formally started its planning process after submitting a proposal of application notice (PAN) to Dundee City Council (DCC).
If approved, the Scottish attraction will see Dundee’s former gasworks transformed into an “earthworks”, where it is hoped to become a “beacon for regeneration and green tourism”, echoing its Cornwall site, which is housed inside a former clay quarry, the company said.
The proposed attraction will be one of several new UK Eden sites and will combine nature, learning and play with live performances, educational and immersive experiences, exhibitions and live music. It will also feature food and beverage venues and retail spaces.
Officials from Eden are planning to submit the site’s planning application this autumn following an extensive public consultation this summer.
Eden has already worked with several community and residential groups in the city and will continue to do so by offering online feedback tools and holding three community meetings throughout July, August and September, before submitting the planning application.

• Ardler Complex – September 13
“We’re hugely excited to be embarking on a new phase of development for Eden Project Dundee with the preparation and submission of our scheme’s planning application,” said Darren Hoare, head of programme delivery at the Eden Project.
“We continue to be bowled over by the enthusiasm for this project from the people of Dundee and we’re now ready to have a full conversation with the city to embed their thoughts and aspirations for the project into the designs we submit in the planning application later this year.
“We hope that the community is as excited as we are for this opportunity to formally contribute to the development process.”
Dundee City Council leader John Alexander added: “This is another important milestone in a world-class project which will deliver hundreds of jobs, huge visitor numbers and tens of millions of pounds into the local economy.
“It’s so much more than that too, with tremendous opportunities for education, inspiration and connecting our diverse communities.
“Although it will attract people from far and wide, Eden is very much for the people of Dundee. So it’s really important that citizens and communities can have their say and co-create what will be a truly incredible facility.”
