Disney seeks inspiring people as operator launches Magic Makers competition

Continuing its 50-year anniversary celebrations, Disney is offering 50 people in the US a trip to Disney World in recognition of their acts of kindness, compassion and creativity

Disney has announced a competition aiming to reward those who ‘make magic’ with a trip to Disney World.

Part of the operator’s fiftieth anniversary celebrations, Disney Magic Makers is a nationwide search to recognise people in the US who bring comfort, support and joy to those around them.

Running until October 1, any US resident over the age of 18 can nominate someone who inspires them. Fifty nominees whose acts of kindness, compassion, and creativity best exemplify the values of a Disney Magic Maker will win a trip to Walt Disney World Resort and a one-year subscription to the Disney+ on-demand service.

"All of us at Disney have been inspired by the countless acts of goodwill by people across the country throughout the pandemic," said Josh D'Amaro, chairman, Disney Parks Experiences and Products.

"These magic makers and their stories have changed us in ways we never imagined. That's why we're so proud to celebrate those who continue to make everyday magic a reality."

In addition to the Magic Makers competition, Disney has announced plans to donate a combined total of US$400,000 (€335,000, £287,000) to four non-profit organisations that demonstrated resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic. These include Make-A-Wish, Starlight Children’s Foundation, Boys and Girls Clubs of America and The Nature Conservancy.
