Disney offers first look at ‘real’ lightsaber

Coming to the hotly-anticipated Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser hotel experience, Disney has unveiled what looks like the most realistic lightsaber ever created

The lightsaber is the most realistic version of the fictional weapon ever created

It’s something that has been much hyped and talked about, and it looks like Disney’s Imagineers have hit another home run, after the company offered a quick first look at its ‘real’ lightsaber.

A 13-second clip released on Star Wars Day (May the Fourth be with you), an actor portraying Rey turns around to activate the saber, with a message coming up to “see it first when Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser opens at Walt Disney World Resort in 2022”.

Now the saber isn’t likely to be able to slice through objects, but it will enhance the Disney experience at the operator’s parks even further. Created by Walt Disney Imagineering Research and Development, the technology will first appear as part of the upcoming immersive Star Wars hotel experience.

Set on-board a Halcyon starcruiser, the two-night experience will offer guests the ability to train with a lightsaber, explore the ship and meet characters from across the Star Wars universe in a number of completely immersive settings. The hotel also pairs with Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios, with the Disney attraction “just a transport ride away”.

“Watching that lightsaber activate right before your eyes will be just one of the countless ways that, from the moment you arrive to the moment you depart, you’ll be plunged into a Star Wars story where your decisions and actions – or even the casual conversations you may have – determine how your personal journey unfolds,” said Jeremy Schoolfield, managing editor at Walt Disney World Resort Public Relations.
