Disney’s upcoming cruise ship The Disney Wish will feature an original Broadway-style stage adaptation of Disney’s 1989 animated movie; The Little Mermaid.

The show, developed exclusively for the ship, will headline the show’s live entertainment offering.

Described by Disney as a “modern-day retelling”, the show will feature a reimagined script and score, including new orchestrations of fan favourite songs ‘Under the Sea’, ‘Poor Unfortunate Souls’ and ‘Part of Your World’.

Iconic scenes, music and characters from the beloved children’s classic will be combined with innovative set design, spectacular special effects and breathtaking choreography.

State-of-the-art video projection will be used to transform the theatre into an immersive 360-degree underwater wonderland, while characters such as Flounder, Sebastian and Scuttle will be brought to life through cutting-edge puppetry.

“The curtain will rise on an enchanted treasure chest at the moment it’s discovered by a group of storytellers, led by a special young woman who has the power to unlock its magic,” said Disney in a statement.

“As they uncover the whosits and wotsits galore hidden within the trunk, the storytellers will take on the roles of Ariel, Ursula, Prince Eric, Sebastian, Flounder and more, bringing to life the immersive undersea world right before guests’ eyes.

“They’ll put their own contemporary spin on the timeless story of a young woman’s search for independence, love and a place in the world.”
