The Disney Wish has been officially christened ahead of its public debut in July, with a lively ceremony in Port Canaveral, Florida, showcasing the future star of Disney’s cruise fleet.

Disney CEO Bob Chapek and Josh d’Amaro, Disney’s chair of Parks and Resorts, welcomed guests for the event, which featured musical performances, dancing and fireworks.

The Disney cast was also on-hand, with Captain Minnie and Captain Mickey in Disney Cruise Line attire, as well as the likes of Pluto, Goofy, Donald Duck and more from the Disney roster.

Working with Make-A-Wish, three children recited the blessing for the ship - the first time children have been given the role for a Disney Cruise Line vessel. Previous christeners include Mariah Carey, Patty Disney, Tinkerbell, and Jennifer Hudson.

The christening ended with the traditional breaking of a champagne bottle, with the breaking joined by music, fireworks and special effects.

Dubbed the next generation of cruise ship for Disney, the vessel features Disney’s first attraction at sea; AquaMouse. A first-of-its-kind attraction, the water coaster sees guests travel through the cartoon world of Scuba Scramble - a new animated short - and 760ft (230m) of winding tubes, suspended above the upper decks. The ride is equipped with more than 60 water effects, which bring the story to life.

Other experiences set to feature include Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure; a theatrical dining experience based on Frozen, the Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge; an adults-only bar, the Marvel Super Hero Academy; where guests train to be superheroes alongside Black Panther and Spider-Man and Fairytale Hall; a trio of activity rooms where guests can explore Belle’s library; and Rapunzel’s art studio. The ship also offers three Broadway-style shows shows.

Several themed pool areas, as well as a number of interactive dining options complete the entertainment offering.

The Disney Wish will embark on its maiden voyage setting sail to the Bahamas on July 14.
