Deadpool and Wolverine’s ‘Welshpool’ goes on display at Wrexham football club

Ryan Reynolds has said the Welshpool suit from Deadpool and Wolverine has been ‘accidentally mounted professionally then inexplicably shipped to The Racecourse Ground in Wrexham’ with the costume from the hit Marvel movie now on display inside Wrexham AFC’s newly-opened café

The costume worn by Wrexham AFC’s Paul Mullin in the smash hit Deadpool and Wolverine has gone on display inside the Welsh football club’s stadium.

Mullin, Wrexham’s star striker, made a cameo appearance in the movie, which stars and is written by club co-owner Ryan Reynolds.

Appearing among a multitude of multiversal Deadpools, Welshpool appears in one of the film’s climactic scenes as Deadpool and Wolverine fight their way through a horde of the foul-mouthed variants.

A nod to the football club with its prominent Welsh flags across the chest and shoulders, the costume is now on display inside the club’s café, with Mullin, Reynolds and Rob McElhenney unveiling the work ahead of the club’s opening game of the League One season.

“Huge thanks to Marvel for not only allowing a new WELSH Deadpool Corps member in the film, but for looking the other way when the suit disappeared from set and was accidentally mounted professionally then inexplicably shipped to The Racecourse Ground in Wrexham with no regard for wrules and wregulations,” said Reynolds.

“On our visit a couple weeks back, we accidentally unveiled Welshpool in his new home at the stadium. I was as surprised as anyone to see it there.

“If you visit the StōK Cae Ras Stadium, you can see WELSHPOOL on display in the Centenary Club,”.

Reynolds and McElhenney purchased Wrexham in 2020, with the Hollywood duo overseeing a transformation that has seen the club promoted twice while also generating huge interest from overseas tourists for the Welsh city, thanks to their star power and the Disney+ documentary Welcome to Wrexham.

Domestically, Deadpool and Wolverine has made more than US$600m at the box office, with the movie grossing US$1.258bn worldwide. The film is currently the seventh highest-grossing MCU movie ever. The film premiered in US theaters on July 26, 2024.
