Chinese tourists are splashing the cash on travel at home and abroad, putting spending on track to exceed pre-pandemic levels for the first time - an important benchmark in the industry’s recovery.
Chinese holidaymakers will spend CN¥1.8tn (US$250bn) this year on trips internationally - about 10 percent more than they did in 2019, according to data from the World Travel and Tourism Council.
Closer to home, domestic tourism in China is also forecast to pump a record CN¥6.79tn (US$940bn) into the mainland economy this year, topping the pre-pandemic levels.
