A new blockbuster exhibition based on hit CBBC show Operation Ouch! will open at the Science and Industry Museum (SIM) in Manchester, UK, in July

A new exhibition based on the popular British children’s show Operation Ouch! will open at the Science and Industry Museum (SIM) in Manchester, UK, in July.
The show, which airs on the BBC’s children's television channel; CBBC, is a comedy series that takes kids through the human body to educate them about medicine and biology.
The new exhibition - Operation Ouch! Food, Poo and You - opens on July 21, 2023 and will similarly take visitors on an interactive journey with show presenters; Dr Chris, Dr Xand and Dr Ronx, as they are “shrunk, swallowed, squeezed through and spat out” of Dr Xand’s digestive system.
The experience has been described as “full of super-sized science, unfiltered adventure and glorious grossness” and explores some of the body’s funniest functions. It aims to educate young visitors on the human body through interactive displays and innovative set design.
Experiential design firm Sarner International is creating the experience, while it is being produced by SIM in partnership with the BBC and 141 Productions - part of All3 Media’s Objective Media Group.
In addition to the exhibition, retail will also feature, with Operation Ouch!-themed toys and games, as well as educational kits and experiments, going on sale.
“From slobber to stomach acid and vomit to poo, this exhibition challenges taboos and proves it’s healthy to understand and discuss how our bodies work,” said Steven Leech, curator of exhibitions at the Science and Industry Museum.
“Science can be serious stuff, but it’s also really fun. Operation Ouch! Food, Poo and You will offer a playful early experience that builds confidence in young people who want to explore science. It’s going to be a fantastic exhibition.”
The show’s hosts, Drs Chris and Xand, added: “Our bodies are amazing! There’s nothing we wouldn’t do to demonstrate all the wonderful ways they work and this exhibition is proof.”
The opening of Operation Ouch! Food, Poo and You comes at an exciting time for the museum, which is currently undergoing a multi-million-pound regeneration project that will see significant improvements made to its existing galleries, as well the opening of several new spaces.
