The Gold Coast’s theme parks will be among the attractions to benefit from a scheme that will see 50,000 vouchers worth AU$50 (US$33, £26) each offered to spend on experiences in the area.
Australia’s Premier, Steven Miles, announced the plan earlier this month following severe weather that caused widespread damage in the region. Called the GC Summer FUNds initiative, the scheme is backed by a government investment of AU$2.5m (US$1.6m, €1.4m, £1.2m), with the vouchers giving discounts to some of the Gold Coast’s most popular attractions, including parks such as Warner Bros Movie World.
“The Gold Coast is one of Queensland’s tourism hot spots because of the world class attractions and experiences on offer,” said Miles.
“This summer our tourism operators have been some of the hardest hit here and in Cairns, so it’s time we help them get back on their feet.
“My government is proud to support this important package, so more people come to the Coast and take advantage of the fantastic opportunities available.”
