Private astronaut and space diplomat Namira Salim has revealed plans to develop a new space tourism and resort franchise concept.

Called 0G Resort, the immersive destination capitalises on the continued trend for space tourism, which generated US$348bn (€320bn, £274bn) in revenue in 2022 alone.

It will feature the “first space hotel on Earth” and will include several luxury hotel accommodations including beachfront villas, sea-facing apartments and rooms.

The concept also includes space-themed restaurants, a stargazing deck, modular space elements, shisha bars and nightclubs, as well as the possibility of a theme park.

The first resort is planned to launch in the UAE with Salim currently seeking investment and possible locations for the project in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

If built, the resort would become a space tourism hub for the UAE, with Salim describing the destination to the Khaleej Times, as “a space where people can come together and gather as a global hub.”

“0G Resort will cost a minimum of US$1bn (€920m, £787m) depending on the location and size of land secured,” she said.

“I also have the best team of consultants who have submitted a proposal for a theme park, which if added will require a bigger plot. These are individuals who build resorts for Disney and Universal Studios and are really excited about 0G Resort.”

The news comes as Salim prepares for her first commercial flight into space with Virgin Galactic, which, once completed, will make her the first private female astronaut from Dubai.

In addition, Salim runs a non-profit organisation, Space Trust, which works alongside the United Nations to advance space exploration for peaceful purposes.
